Accountability Services at Canopy Summit 2024

When Canopy invited Chief Business Development Officer Lera Kooper to be a panel member at their 2024 summit, we couldn’t book her plane ticket fast enough! Canopy’s practice management software has been a lifesaver for our firm and we’ll take any opportunity to share our positive experience.

The Canopy team sent through some behind the scenes photos from the event, if you’ve ever wondered what a film set looks like from behind the camera.

Liz Scott from Canopy introduces panel members to the audience.

The benefits of switching to Canopy

On the panel, Lera joined fellow Canopy power users and accounting firm owners Sean Duncan and Travis Landry to discuss a wide range of topics related to the software and practice ownership.

The conversation kicked off with questions surrounding why each of the firms decided to migrate their practice management system to Canopy, and which features have been most beneficial thus far.

Common answers included:

  • Consolidation of tech stack – Accountability Services was able to go from 14+ tools down to 4 or 5
  • Improved client experience – With all client data and a library of all communications in one place, it’s easier to focus on client goals and build stronger relationships
  • User-friendly interface for both clients and accountants – Canopy simplifies the onboarding process for both new engagements and new hires.
  • Enhanced security – Having a secure platform for uploading, storing, and retrieving documents keeps client data safe
  • Automated task management – Canopy frees up hundreds of hours of manpower each year for even smaller firms, freeing up CPAs to focus on providing clients with advisory services

Strategic growth in the accounting industry

In the latter half of the segment, the panel shared ideas on identifying and finding ideal clients, marketing, hiring, and how to ask top clients for referrals.

You can find the full 40-minute panel discussion here on the Canopy blog. The full summit is several hours long so be sure to start the video around 1:26.
